Blog - Adobe on AIR in Warsaw

We just got back from Adobe on AIR in Warsaw, and i feel like i need to write something about it. It was cool, we got really nice t-shirts, some stickers (already on my laptop). We have'nt won anything, although it was close.


I think AIR is a good technology, i like it and i enjoy using it. As an experienced desktop application programmer with c++ and delphi, i found it very interesting to use Flex to create such. Creating desktop applications without handling all memory related issues, just relaying on GC is much easier and faster. I was waiting for on AIR meeting for a long time, but unfortunately it was'nt what ive expected. Just quite interesting 'event marketing'. Talks...

  quite interesting talk... but only for begginers. But it was quite cool to see THE Mike Chambers on stage.
• Kevin Hoyt * 2 - ...
  im not JavaScript developer so i wanted to learn something, but i got lost after about 5 minutes. It was too fast, so the only way out was to sit back and watch. Kevin showed some examples of AIR applications created with HTML and JavaScript, like web browser in 50 (or something like that) lines of code.
• Serge Jespers - ...
  that was a good one and funny also. Serge talked about signing and updating AIR applications. He also explained installing AIR applications using AIR Badge
• Daniel Dura - ....
  API overview... nothing special. Boring.
• Enrique Duvos - ....
  working with SQLite and LiveCycle Data Services. Boring.
• Ethan Malasky - ...
  good and interesting talk. Good fundamential knowlage about security model in AIR was described. Ethan talked also about cross sandbox communication using SandboxBridge. JavaScript code injection using JSON was also interesting. I was also talking with Ethan during break about security of plugins and modules. If You create AIR application, and You want to add users possibility to create plugins for your application... only Ethan knows how to deal with this :P I was also talking with Ethan about my idea of secure plugins loading.

  man i was disapointed with this one... 'Bits and Bytes in Adobe AIR' should be about 'bits and bytes' as i suppose. I was waiting for that one, and boom that was boring.
• Andre Charland - ...
  Talk about JavaScript frameworks. Im not a JavaScript developer = boring talk. Although example of VOIP application was cool ;)
• Lee Brimelow - ...
  Awsome talk titled 'AIR Conditioning'. That was a good AIR showcase in nutshell. Lee showed some good examples and talked about all main AIR features.
